Visionary filmmaker SS Rajamouli has once again set the stage for a cinematic revolution—this time alongside actor and studio head Nagarjuna. The duo unveiled A&M MoCap Lab, officially India’s largest motion capture facility, marking a landmark moment for the country’s film and gaming industries.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Rajamouli wrote: “For years our stories pushed the limits of our canvas. Today we stretch it further. Excited to launch A&M MoCap Lab, India’s largest Motion Capture facility at @AnnapurnaStudios set up in collaboration with @mihiravisualabs and @Animatrik. Looking forward for storytellers to explore its limitless potential in animation, live action, gaming and more.” His words reflect not just excitement, but a long-term vision for Indian storytelling.

The cutting-edge lab has been established at Annapurna Studios, owned by Nagarjuna, in collaboration with Mihira Visual Labs and Animatrik. The 2.8-minute launch video offers a fascinating walk-through of the high-tech facility. From performers suited up in motion capture gear to expansive green screen arenas and real-time digital rendering demonstrations, the lab promises seamless integration of live-action performances with computer-generated worlds.

Nagarjuna’s presence in the video adds weight to the initiative. As the driving force behind Annapurna Studios, he emphasized the importance of creating world-class infrastructure within India. The facility not only strengthens Hyderabad’s position as a filmmaking hub but also signals a shift toward self-reliance in high-end VFX and post-production work that often required overseas expertise.

For Rajamouli, whose blockbuster RRR showcased ambitious visual storytelling on a global scale, this expansion into advanced motion capture feels like a natural evolution. Known for blending myth, emotion, and spectacle, he has consistently pushed technological boundaries. With A&M MoCap Lab, future filmmakers can now experiment with large-scale fantasy, action, and gaming projects without stepping outside the country.

The industry has already responded with enthusiasm. Filmmakers and technicians see this as a game-changing move that will empower creators across cinema, animation, and interactive entertainment. By reducing reliance on foreign post-production pipelines, the lab could accelerate production timelines and encourage even more ambitious Indian narratives.

Meanwhile, Rajamouli is immersed in his next epic, tentatively titled Varanasi. Co-written with V. Vijayendra Prasad and S. S. Kanchi, and produced by Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business, the film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The story follows Rudhra (Mahesh Babu) as the ancient city of Varanasi faces the catastrophic threat of an approaching asteroid, weaving multiple timelines and global locations into a grand action-adventure narrative.

With Rajamouli’s visionary direction and Nagarjuna’s infrastructure backing, A&M MoCap Lab represents more than just a studio launch—it’s a statement. A statement that Indian cinema is ready not only to match global standards but to set them. The canvas has grown larger, the tools sharper, and the ambition bolder than ever before.
